Every year, many students spend one or two semesters at foreign universities or complete an internship in a company abroad, either as a compulsory part of an international degree programme or as a substitute for a required internship within a Bachelor's degree programme. Have the courage! You are taking on a challenge that will not only develop you professionally but also personally and will accompany you throughout your life. You will learn to navigate a different academic system with foreign language courses and observe and experience exciting social and cultural differences.
You should start planning your stay abroad early. You should think about where and how you would like to spend your time abroad at least a year in advance. To do this, it is helpful to develop a timetable of which steps should be completed by when and to use a checklist of which steps should basically be taken into account.
There are many ways to find out about studying abroad. Here are some possibilities you can use:
Universities around the world are available to you for a stay abroad as part of your university studies. For students of International Business, this is possible during their compulsory year abroad. Students of Business Administration, Business Information Systems and Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering can replace their practical project with a semester at a university abroad. It is also possible to complete a voluntary semester abroad. If you are particularly interested in a university that is not a partner of Trier University of Applied Sciences, you can approach your stay abroad on a free-mover basis through your own initiative.
It is possible to take up an internship in a foreign company. An internship abroad is possible for students as part of the year abroad, but also for students of the Business Administration, Business Information Systems and Industrial Engineering and Electrical Engineering degree programmes as part of their practical project.
Many students who take the step to study abroad ask themselves how their stay abroad can be financed. There are a variety of funding options available to you in this context, such as the Auslands-BAföG or scholarships as well as foundations.
Once you have found your destination, the next step is to register with us. You can apply for a place at one of our partner universities via Stud.IP under the heading Partner Universities. You can apply there in February for the winter semester and in September for the summer semester. The nomination will then be made by our international representatives. You will be informed about this procedure in good time by email and will receive the exact deadlines for the application procedure.
