The Office of the Dean

Tasks

According to ยง 88 HochSchG (the statute on higher education), the Dean has above all the following duties:

  • Chairing member of the Faculty Council
  • Preparing the agenda for meetings of the Faculty Council
  • Enforcing the resolutions of the Faculty Council
  • Allocating the positions and funds assigned to the department within the framework of the department's general principles
  • Conducting the business of the department under its own responsibility
  • Ensuring that courses are offered and organizing the teaching required for this purpose
  • Dealing with matters that cannot be postponed.

The Dean may be represented by a Vice Dean in all the tasks described above.

Term of office and election

The Dean and the Associate Dean shall be elected by the Faculty Council from among the professors who are members of the Faculty Council for a term of three years. The President may submit a proposal.

Advisory function

The Dean may participate in an advisory capacity in the meetings of the faculty committees and joint committees in which the department participates, even without being a member of them.
