Free Movers

What is meant by a “free mover”?

You don't want to spend your stay abroad at one of our partner universities? Are you interested in a stay in Australia, India or Canada, for example, where we do not yet have any cooperation agreements? Then you can apply to universities worldwide as a so-called free mover, both within the framework of the compulsory year abroad and an optional stay abroad or an additional voluntary semester abroad.

In doing so, however, you must ensure that the institution in question is recognised as a higher education institution in its own country, and is also considered a higher education institution in Germany. Information on this can be found in the anabin database of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs in the Federal Republic of Germany. Possible higher education institutions have the status "H+" here.

All prerequisites for the various study abroad options offered by the department apply analogously to free-movers. In addition, you must meet the admission requirements of the host university.
