Summer Schools

What is a Summer School?

For many students, a summer school is an interesting alternative to a semester abroad or serves to gain initial experience abroad. Summer schools give students the chance to make international contacts, get to know the country and its culture and, of course, gain professional knowledge in different areas. During each summer school, the focus is on a specific topic and/or a language focus. The courses usually take place during the semester break and usually last 1-4 weeks. The language in which the different programmes are held is usually English.

Requirements

Admission requirements vary depending on the university or programme. Some universities or colleges have language proficiency requirements. This can usually be proven by a language certificate, such as the TOFEL or the grade of the Abitur certificate. In general, proof of the Abitur or Fachabitur must be provided.

Financing options

Since the locations of the higher education institutions offering a summer school as well as their programmes vary, the costs for a summer school vary accordingly. The organizers themselves often offer help with financing. Possible funding can also be found at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
