Between Consulting and AI Prototyping: Cooperative Seminar with PwC Luxembourg

As part of the cooperative seminar “Advanced Data & Information Management Technologies” led by Prof. Dr. Andreas Biesdorf in collaboration with PwC Luxembourg, students reached another important milestone in their project work last week: their first on-site visit to PwC Luxembourg in Gasperich.

The seminar combines current technologies in the fields of Enterprise Data Platforms, Natural Language Processing, Retrieval Augmented Generation, and Large Language Models with hands-on project work in a consulting environment. Four student teams are each working on a simulated consulting project based on real-world client cases, with PwC employees taking on the role of the clients.

Prior to the visit, the teams had already conducted extensive interviews with their “clients” to analyze project requirements, challenges, and objectives. During the visit to Luxembourg, the groups presented their findings on-site. The focus was on clearly defining the problem, presenting possible solution approaches, and discussing initial prototype ideas together with the stakeholders.

The seminar offered by Prof. Biesdorf provides students with a particularly strong practical focus. They experience a complete consulting process — from requirements gathering and structured stakeholder communication to the technical implementation of a proof of concept. In addition to technical expertise, students also develop important soft skills such as professional communication, presentation techniques, and business etiquette in a client-facing environment.

In the next phase, the teams will develop concrete prototypes to validate and evaluate their chosen solution approaches. A second on-site visit to PwC Luxembourg in June will conclude the project, during which the students will present their final prototypes and the insights gained throughout the process.
