This is a workshop on Process-orientated sculpting in (soft) stone.
Sculptural forms are created using hammers, chisels, files, rasps, pneumatic hammers and angle grinders.
The realisation takes place intuitively or in planned forms. You will develop your spatial imagination in the process.
Thanks to the relatively soft materials, you will make rapid progress: We experience rough shaping and deep cuts through to fine structures for the form and completion of the work.
You will learn to find solutions for different ideas that we will try out while working.
Be prepared for some muscle-building & sweat-production!

"When I arrived at the ISA in 2024, I got a big surprise- the course I attended wasn't about 50x50x50mm gemstones, but about what looked like 50x50x50cm tombstones. The table was full of familiar tools, sure, from my garage. The kind of gear you use for home improvement and construction projects. Honestly, in that moment, I was devastated and unable to accept the situation...
A year later I opened my solo exhibition with all works carved from stone with the tools I already had at home (see pictures below). This happy little "accident" that put me in a position to learn stone sculpting with Levan was actually the best thing that could have happened to me at the time. It opened my eyes and my mind - it gave me a new perspective. I learned a lot about myself and my abilities...again.
This experience reminded me how important is to come out of your comfort zone as often as possible and jump right into the deep end. Thank you, Levan and Theo!"
