BAföG funds one to two semesters of study (max. twelve calendar months) abroad, both within and outside Europe. Mandatory practical/internship semesters are funded within Europe. Funding outside Europe is only possible if the study and examination regulations require the practical semester to take place outside Europe. If the funding conditions are met:
there is also a legal entitlement to funding for studying abroad under BAföG!
Depending on your host country, you must submit your Auslands-BAföG (BAföG for studying abroad) application to the BAföG office responsible for that country. Different central foreign offices in Germany are responsible for foreign funding under BAföG depending on the destination country — for both university students and school pupils.
