Entry into Germany

Students from the European Union, the European Economic Area, and certain other countries can enter Germany without a visa.
All other international students generally require a visa; especially if they intend to stay in Germany for more than three months.

Please check in advance which entry requirements apply to your country. Once in Germany, you must present your visa to the local Foreigners’ Registration Office, which will convert it into a residence permit for study purposes (also take a look at Residence).
