There's so much to consider…
Do you feel something is missing from our website? What's missing, and where? Let us know!
We are always trying to improve our information. THANK YOU for every tip you give us! But perhaps you will now find what you were looking for after all:
You will find a lot of useful information on studying abroad on the following pages: [Note: This information is a service provided by the Academic International Office and is intended to give initial guidance. Information on the grading systems of various countries can be found at: anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/bildungswesen.html (Select the country you are interested in and then click on "Notensystem der Hochschulen" [Grading System of Higher Education Institutions].)
If you have "brought" a grade from abroad and are not yet sure, based on this table, what this grade COULD be in the German system, convert it using the so-called "Bavarian formula." A conversion tool can be found HERE.
Germany has concluded governmental agreements with numerous countries on the mutual recognition of academic degrees as well as study and examination achievements (equivalence agreements). A detailed overview of this can be found on the website of the KMK (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs).
The recommendations of the HRK (German Rectors' Conference) may also provide further guidance: www.hrk.de/themen/studium/anerkennung/www.hrk.de/positionen/position/beschluss/detail/anerkennung-und-anrechnung-an-hochschulen/
German universities are autonomous in their decisions, meaning they decide for themselves to what extent study achievements can be credited. Therefore, the preceding text serves only as guidance on what COULD be the case. For further clarification, please contact the Examination Office (where you can obtain the forms for the recognition of achievements) and the relevant advisors in your department!
Information from our Examination Office on "Recognition / Crediting of Achievements" can be found HERE.
A language test is NOT always required — especially for stays at partner universities. Please check the specific requirements again in detail. If it is required after all, the DAAD language certificate is often sufficient. The template can be found HERE.
The instructors from the "Language and Communication" department at UCB can fill out the DAAD language certificate and are also happy to answer any questions you may have regarding language tests in general and translations.
