A lot of students ask themselves „What is the AstA and what is it doing?”. Everybody is talking about it but only few really know what the AstA is about. According to the university law of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz (Palatinate) the student body is responsible for:
The department council discusses and decides in departmental matters of fundamental significance. To be able to conduct the businesses of the department effectively, the department council can form committees, e.g. the examination board, the committee of studies and teaching or the financial board.
The department council as well as the committees are composed of professors, employees and representatives of the student body. Through those representatives you can put forth your interests, wishes and ideas!
The “Fachschaft” constitutes the student representation of the different departments. The student representatives of a department are elected by the students of this department. The “Fachschaft” represents your interests as student within the department, answers any questions or helps with problems concerning your studies. Apart from that the “Fachschaft” organises, for example, first semester introductions, collects and lets lecture scripts, outdated exams, examination and practical course protocols and organises student department parties and sports events. You will find a link to your respective “Fachschaft” on this website.
The Senate shall take care of all matters which concern the entire university, unless otherwise stipulated by the Higher Education Act or the Basic Regulations.
In particular, the Senate shall decide on the general principles governing the allocation of posts and funds, comment on the proposals of the departments for the appointment of professors, decide on the establishment, amendment and cancellation of study programmes and draw up the overall development plan for the higher education institution.
The Student Parliament (StuPa) is the decision-making body of students. It is composed of two representatives of each department and elected directly by the student representatives of the departments. The StuPa makes decisions and resolutions, supports the AStA and elects the student representatives of the governing board of the Studierendenwerk Trier (Student services Trier). As top continuously meeting council it represents the opinion of the student body of the University of Applied Sciences Trier. You can submit requests, proposals and wishes by handing a petition to a StuPa representative of your department to be decided in the next session or send it directly by e-mail to the StuPa.
