Questions and answers

Does eduVPN work worldwide and everywhere?

Yes, as long as the country in which you are staying does not prohibit this. The same applies to companies, hotels, public WLANs, city WLANs and Internet cafés.

Tips and tricks

eduVPN cancels or does not start

In the eduVPN client, set the preference to use TCP.
This can avoid problems that arise when the current WLAN discards or limits UDP packets.
If this does not help, please contact the WLAN operator.

Windows Defender warning for ‘Update now’

When attempting to update the eduVPN client under Windows, a message may appear stating that the Trojan:Script/ObfusScript.A!ml threat has been detected.

This is a false positive. In fact, neither a virus nor a threat is present.

Remedy:

Log on to https://eduvpn.hochschule-trier.de via a web browser, download the latest Windows client and install it manually.

Error: ‘404 Status’ with message ‘/_oauth/authorise not found’.

The cause seems to be that the update of the eduVPN client does not update the metadata of the saved server.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Open the eduVPN client
  2. Right-click on "Hochschule Trier"
  3. Click on "Remove Server".
  4. Add "Hochschule Trier" again.

Linux: failed matching ISS; expected 'https://eduvpn.hochschule-trier.de/' got 'https://eduvpn.hochschule-trier.de'.

In most cases, this is caused by a faulty state file.

Solution:

  1. Exit eduVPN
  2. Install the latest version of eduVPN for Linux
  3. Execute "rm ~/.config/eduvpn/state.json" in the terminal
  4. Start eduVPN and try again
