When you first receive your student ID card, it already has an expiration date printed on it. This date corresponds to the end of the semester. If you intend to continue your studies beyond this period, you must re-register by paying the semester fee for the next semester. All students will receive a re-registration notice via email from the Student Services Office.

After you have re-registered, the validity of your student ID card must be extended. This means that the new expiration date must be printed on the student ID card.

A specific area on the front of the card, known as the TRW (Thermo-Re-Write) strip, is designated for this purpose. This strip is slightly duller than the rest of the surface. Printing the new expiration date is called validation.

Students perform the validation at dedicated validation stations (Schneidershof, Building G in the passageway to Building H, and at Irminenfreihof, ground floor next to Room Q11). The machines are in operation on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The thermal process first erases the text on the TRW strip. Through interaction with the student database, the new validity date is printed based on the data retrieved.
 

Technology
The new student ID card is equipped with a Mifare chip. This smart memory chip relies on a contactless connection between the reader and the chip card.

The student ID card is composed of several layers of plastic. The chip is embedded between these layers. The antenna required for the wireless connection is generally located along the edge of the card.

To access the various functions, user IDs (e.g., for the library) must be stored on the chip. The student agrees to this upon enrollment or re-registration. The student ID number is generally used as the user number. The first and last name, as well as other personal data, are not stored on the chip but are merely printed on the student ID card.

Care
The student ID card is intended to accompany you throughout your studies. Therefore, please treat it with care and observe the following instructions:

Do not bend or subject it to strong pressure

Protect it from cold and heat

Do not get it dirty or use it when dirty

Keep it away from strong magnets
