Competition for creative craftsmanship.

In 2019, a competition was held for the 20th time for the award of the State Prize and the Promotion Prize for Rhineland-Palatinate Arts and Crafts. The competition is organised by the Association of Rhineland-Palatinate Chambers of Skilled Crafts and the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate. The award of the Rhineland-Palatinate Crafts and Trades Prize is linked to the competition.The aim of the competition is to stimulate and promote the cultural development of crafts in Rhineland-Palatinate in order to do justice to the processes of change in the economy and technology with contemporary forms of expression. In accordance with tradition and the historical significance of the craft, achievements are to be honoured which reveal forward-looking new ideas, which have been produced in a material and functional manner in accordance with today's valid criteria, and which are of outstanding craft quality.

The jury says: "A mineral endless loop on the tape. No, not only. Edu Tarín invites us to a mental game. The basic structure of his followers, the receding fixed loop, is unsurpassed in its simplicity and yet represents spatial complexity. By mirroring the negatively corresponding form milled from the breccia, he draws our attention to the work done and the origin of the material.
A short, penetrating philosophical narrative about human creation, the evolution of craftsmanship and, ultimately, the question of the duality of things. Successful". /Unk Kraus

The jury says: "Sometimes the small is bigger than the big. One can hardly touch them these tiny delicate objects and jewels by Natascha Frechen. Perfectly crafted, they are so provocatively dainty that your own hands look like rough tools if you dare to hold them in your hand.
The handling of the materials wood and gemstone is literally pushed to the extreme, so that they almost deny their true character.
A soft winding form made of agate, barely two millimetres thick in diameter, is traced by the metal wire of the brooch needle; the grinding work and the goldsmith's technique are of admirable precision. Besides the cutlery made of found wood, coarse and fine at the same time, it is probably not to be used, although knife, fork and spoon lie well in the hand.
A fine irony shimmers through these objects, they take a little bit of the over-designed cutlery that one encounters everywhere to heart!" / Cornelie Holzach
