Prof. Dr. Gerald Schröder

Professorship for design and art science

Art and design are of course very central concepts for our department of design. They guide the creative practice in our various fields of study. But what exactly are art and design? What are the differences between them? And how are they connected and mutually enriching? Ultimately, these questions, which occupy me in my teaching, can only be answered by not only systematically examining the manifold phenomena of design and art, but also by analysing their historical genesis and development as well as their cultural, institutional and socio-political contexts.
