Her work was chosen from over 990 entries from 71 countries, a testament to the international competition and the high standard of the competition.
The objects and pendants from KOH-I-NOOR and Friends (various gemstones, 2023-25) combine material aesthetics and concept: Julia Obermaier creates pieces of jewellery that function both as wearable objects and as small sculptures. Her work operates in this field of tension and shows how jewellery can transcend boundaries.
The Cheongju Craft Biennale, theme 2025: Re_Crafting Tomorrow, opens its doors from 4 September to 2 November at the Culture Factory in Cheongju, South Korea. With over 1,300 participants from 72 countries and more than 2,500 exhibited works, it offers one of the largest international platforms for contemporary arts and crafts. Obermaier's Gold Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in the competition, which endeavours to include all genres of craftsmanship.
