In his solo exhibition at Galerie beyond, Belgium, Edu Tarin, bachelor and master graduate of the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus, is showing the artistic results of his two-year research project, which he carried out at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The focus is on the imaginary dividing line between traditional craftsmanship and modern technology - especially in the field of gemstone processing.
In his project, Tarin questions the widespread view that craftsmanship belongs to the past and technology to the future. Instead, he examines the interfaces between hand and machine and brings the two into a creative dialogue. The mutual influence of man, machine and artefact creates a new, intimate approach to the combination of traditional stone carving and automated production processes.
His interdisciplinary approach not only opens up new design perspectives, but also raises fundamental questions about the role of humans in the field of tension between craftsmanship and technology.
