Master-Thesis: "Performative Traces"

Betreuung: Prof. Ute Eitzenhöfer, Prof. Theo Smeets

"In the 'Performative Traces' series, I explore themes such as movement, transformation and the traces left behind in the process, as well as my Viennese identity. Central themes include breaking up structures and traditions, questioning norms and values, searching for balance, confronting social hurdles and resistance, and preoccupation with memories. Functions are reconsidered and reinterpreted. My master's thesis research study sheds light on the performative act in the process of jewellery development. This takes us from the trace to the performance and ultimately to the investigation of the jewellery itself. Traces, whether physical or emotional, carry personal or collective memories. These traces are uncontrollable and unique to the individual; they are the result of every interaction, whether it is the trace that our bodies and actions leave on materials, or the trace that materials leave on us.

Performance as a form of artistic expression opens up new possibilities through the use of bodies and objects. These performances demonstrate courage and dedication, often in public spaces, and imbue objects and bodies with experiences that can be shaped into personal values and incorporated into one's life. Jewellery, one of the oldest art forms, has always held significant symbolic meaning and represented social values. It serves as a means of expressing the need for self-adornment. It also represents the connection between intellect and body, and stands for sensuality, pleasure, status, power and physical transformation, as well as communication and playfulness. Jewellery becomes an action and a performative medium, enabling the viewer to have interactive experiences. I develop objects that serve as 'tools' and invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences, memories, and values. This opens up a scope for action, which, for me, is the real value of jewellery."
