Master-Thesis: "A nature of a drop"

Betreuung: Prof. Ute Eitzenhöfer, Prof. Theo Smeets

"In this theoretical work, I embark on an evocative journey to reveal the interconnectedness of human experience with the elemental essence of droplets - be they tears, sweat or rain. This research challenges me to rethink the ordinary and transform it into a profound metaphor for the cyclical processes and emotional depths of life.

The narrative voice of Paloma, a symbolic raindrop, runs through scientific revelations, cultural reflections and artistic interpretations to bridge the tangible and intangible.

The research highlights the universality of tears, sweat, movement as vehicles of expression. Tears become a silent testimony to human vulnerability, embodying grief, joy and catharsis, while sweat emerges as a dual symbol of physical exertion and intimate sensuality. Through these bodily expressions, I celebrate the organic interplay of human existence with nature, offering a perspective that honours both simplicity and profundity.

Moreover, the artistic explorations cited - from Jackson Pollock‘s dripping abstractions to Pina Bausch‘s transformative dance theatre - underscore the transformative power of seemingly ephemeral phenomena. These droplets, which might otherwise go unnoticed, take on cultural and emotional significance as they inspire artists and scientists alike, revealing their potential to evoke thought, beauty and innovation. Ultimately, this work transcends mere 84 academic inquiry and becomes a poetic manifesto.

The drop, in its myriad forms, symbolises both individuality and unity - an isolated entity yet part of a greater whole. This duality serves as a mirror of the human condition, urging me to recognise my own capacity for resilience and metamorphosis.

In conclusion, this thesis is not only an exploration of material and emotional phenomena, but also a call to observe the world with renewed sensitivity. It reminds that within the microcosm of a droplet lies the essence of creativity, connection and the infinite cycle of renewal.

By blending art, science and personal narrative, I hope to inspire my readers to find the extraordinary in the ordinary - a lesson as enduring as the water cycle itself."
