Master-Thesis: "spirit, matter and the creative mind"

Supervision: Prof. Ute Eitzenhöfer, Prof. Eva-Maria Kollischan, Prof. Theo Smeets

"My task as a maker in the western society is to explore other times and cultures in a search of varying spiritual processes and attitudes of other creators, done through the fabrication of different materials into suitable forms.

The master thesis emphasizes on three different cultures in which a creative individual operates:

  • the world of an alchemist who practices alchemy
  • a voodoo fetisher dealing with the magic of the voodoo religion
  • the artisan, a creative individual emerging from the Tuareg desert culture

The purpose of the thesis is to study the three creative figures and their ability to carry out a transformation of matter through spirituality. By studying their unique approach towards material, tools and environment, I gained a better understanding of the reasons that drive these makers to create despite all the social difficulties. I have examined the important position of the makers in their society and their complex relationship with it."
