SCHOOL CERTIFICATES

General higher education entrance qualification (Allgemeine Hochschulreife)

You can start studying at universities and universities of applied sciences with an Abitur (Abitur can be compared to "A-levels", the "Matura" or the International Baccalaureate Diploma). It is usually acquired at a state or state-recognized High School. However, there are also other equivalent university entrance qualifications for different types of high schools (e.g. evening high schools).

Subject-related entrance qualification (Fachgebundene Hochschulreife)

The subject-specific higher education entrance qualification basically entitles the holder to study all courses at universities of applied sciences or in certain fields of study to study at a university.

Entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulreife)

Graduates from universities of applied sciences generally receive degrees from technical colleges or Telekolleg II. However, under certain conditions, they can also be obtained at vocational schools, technical schools or other institutions. High school students who have successfully completed the 12th grade acquire the university entrance qualification in conjunction with a successfully completed one-year internship or successfully completed vocational training.

Admission to Bachelor's programmes, which are offered in a "dual" form, is also possible for persons who have acquired the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife. In this case, in addition to the certificate of the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife, proof of the completed first year of training must be provided in the form of the professional training contract.

University entrance qualification at a vocational college in Baden-Würtemberg (Fachhochschulreife an einem Berufskolleg Baden-Würtemberg)

With a certificate of admission to a university of applied sciences from a vocational college in Baden-Würtemberg, the entrance qualification will also be recognized in Rhineland-Palatinate under the following conditions:

  • Proof of completed vocational training (before or after attending the vocational college, does not have to be related) or
  • Proof of a six-month relevant internship following the vocational college or
  • Recognition note for all federal states in the certificate
