Among the 30 members of the Austrian group are three graduates of the Gemstone and Jewelry Campus: Iris Hummer, Stephie Morawetz and Elias Neuspiel.
The project aims to strengthen the international visibility of Austrian jewelry art and contribute actively to current artistic discourse.
Through newly created works as well as recontextualised pieces from the artists’ archives, Lückenfüller reveals strategies of filling, exposing, or aesthetically emphasising gaps - both in material and thought.
Following its first presentation in Munich in 2025, the exhibition continues in New York at the renowned Pratt Institute, one of the country’s leading academic institutions for art, design, and architecture. As an official contribution to New York City Jewelry Week - one of the most influential global platforms for contemporary jewelry - this edition expands the project’s international reach.
A dedicated visual identity supports all communication and promotional materials. A newly produced exhibition catalogue accompanies the show, offering insights into the artworks, artists, and curatorial approach. In addition, a public lecture at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York will further highlight the conceptual framework behind the project.
Lückenfüller is made possible through the generous support of the Pratt Institute, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (Bundesministerium für Kunst, Kultur, öffentlichen Dienst und Sport). Their collaboration and commitment have been instrumental in realizing this project and in fostering meaningful international exchange within the field of contemporary jewelry.
Location: Steuben Gallery, Pratt Institute, New York
Duration: 17-23. November 2025
Iris Hummer - Keil I, II, III, IV:
The wedge as a performative element symbolizes the breaking open and opening up of existing structures and thoughts. It creates space for the new and destabilizes the existing. It raises the question: “What is the gap and what is the original?” It invites us to question the relationship between what we consider to be the original and the gap that arises through change or new perspectives.
Stephie Morawetz - Bloommarks:
Beauty is the art of wearing every scar, every line, and every story immortalized on our skin with pride. In this project, I decorate stretch marks with gold temporary tattoos and transform them into blooming flowers. These gold blossoms symbolize the beauty that emerges when we embrace our imperfections. In this project, I adorn stretch marks with gold temporary tattoos and transform them into blooming flowers. These gold blossoms symbolize the beauty that emerges when we fully embrace our bodies and celebrate self-acceptance. The project is inspired by the idea that beauty is not defined by perfection, but by the journey we take to embrace our bodies and celebrate our unique stories.
Elias Neuspiel - Szenen aus Tagträumen (Scenes from daydreams):
Daydreaming transforms boredom into vivid fantasies. Elias' works open up a space in which viewers can explore their own imagination and discover personal associations. The deliberately abstract design language stimulates reflection and invites viewers to link individual memories and inner images with the jewelry pieces - so that each encounter creates new connections.
