International Workshop Series

Workshop series and award ceremony at the Department of Environmental Economics and Law with Prof. Steve Keen, an internationally renowned economist

The Friede Gard Prize is an award for scientific achievements that represents outstanding progress in economic science towards  sustainability. The prize provides an incentive for the development of an economic science that is compatible with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 2022 award ceremony honored Prof. Steve Keen, PhD, an internationally renowned economist who, as an outstanding critic of mainstream neoclassical-neoliberal economics, was one of the few economists to predict the 2008 financial crisis using, among other things, his system dynamics software MINSKY.
In addition to the award ceremony on October 13, 2022, Prof. Keen offered a workshop in English on working with MINSKY, which was taken up primarily by interested economists and English-speaking students. During the award ceremony and the workshop, both digital and physical participation were possible.

Through the workshop, valuable opportunities emerged for networking between students and interested parties with Prof. Keen, which will be further developed in the future. The Friede Gard Prize, which has been awarded annually since 2021, is awarded more frequently to internationally known candidates whose involvement in the university‘s activities actively promotes internationalization and thus increases the awareness and attractiveness of Birkenfeld as a location and of Trier University of Applied Sciences in general for international students.
