History of Trier University of Applied Sciences

1830 The Building Trades School was founded for the training of architects and civil engineers.
1900 Foundation of the Werkkunstschule.
1922 A separate fashion class is established at the Werkkunstschule - the oldest fashion class still in existence in Germany.
1971 The Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences is founded and the Trier department of the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Applied Sciences is created. Predecessor institutions Baugewerkeschule and Werkkunstschule are integrated.
1975 Establishment of the Department of Business Administration III (Organization and Business Informatics) and the Department of Business Administration IV (Finance, Auditing and Taxation).
1978 Establishment of the Department of Nutrition and Home Economics and the Department of Supply Engineering.
1980 Move to the vacated buildings of the University of Trier at the Schneidershof site.
1985 Expansion of the range of courses offered by the Department of Business Administration IV to include the course of European Business.
1994 Establishment of the Department of Applied Computer Science.
1994 Construction of a new university of applied sciences as part of a conversion project on the site of the former U.S. Hospital Neubrücke in the Birkenfeld municipality. Start of the development of a concept based on Anglo-Saxon campus universities.
1995 Vocationally integrated studies in mechanical engineering, distance learning in computer science.
1996 The Trier department becomes an independent university on September 1 with three campuses: Trier, Birkenfeld and Idar-Oberstein.
1996 Opening of the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus. Studies begin on October 1. The UCB became a showcase conversion project in the Hunsrück region, as a site abandoned by the American armed forces could be put to new use here.
2001 Inauguration of the new study site Irminenfreihof on June 21.
2001 30 Years of Trier University of Applied Sciences: Trier University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate with almost 4,500 students
2002 The first Bachelor's and Master's programs are accredited (Bachelor Sc. Computer Science; Master Sc. Computer Science)
2003 Festive handover of keys in the fully renovated premises of the Art Nouveau building on Paulusplatz on June 6.
2003 The internal structures of Trier University of Applied Sciences are streamlined: At the Trier location, the offerings of the previous ten departments are bundled into five new, high-performance departments.
2008 In accordance with the Bologna Declaration signed by the European Ministers of Education in 1999, Trier University of Applied Sciences has converted all of its degree programs to Bachelor's and Master's degree programs.
2010 Acceptance of Trier University of Applied Sciences as a full member of the EUA (European University Association)
2012 Change of the university name to "Hochschule Trier - Trier University of Applied Sciences".
2016 20 Years Environmental Campus Birkenfeld. Introduction of the new corporate design of Trier University.
2017 System accreditation of Trier University of Applied Sciences
The training of designers and artisans has a long tradition in Trier.
The Fashion Design Department at the HS Trier is the oldest still existing institution for fashion design, which was founded as a design class in 1922 at the Werkkunstschule.
In the early 1980s, a machine shop was built on the main campus for the mechanical engineering department.
Aerial view of the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus properties from 1999. The site served as a reserve hospital for the U.S. Armed Forces in Germany until 1992.
