1. How long does the Industrial Mentorship Programme last?

March to November 2026

The programme runs from March to November 2026 and spans several months, from the kick-off phase to the closing event. However, the aim is for the mentoring relationship to continue independently beyond the official programme duration, if both mentee and mentor wish to do so.

2. Who can apply for the programme?

PhD students from all disciplines

The programme is open to doctoral candidates from all disciplines who are interested in academic or non-academic career paths.

3. How does the registration process work?

Application Form

Interested candidates complete the application form and submit it via email at K.Baumgaertner[@]hochschule-trier[.]de. After registration, participants receive initial information, and the matching process with suitable mentors begins.

4. How are mentees and mentors matched?

Matching is based on the information provided in the application form, including academic background, interests, and career goals. The programme team coordinates the process.

5. How often do mentees and mentors meet?

One meeting per month is recommended

The frequency of meetings is agreed upon individually by the mentee and mentor, depending on their needs. One meeting per month is recommended.

6. What is expected from mentees?

Mentee's initiative is key

Mentees are expected to take an active role, define their goals, prepare for meetings, and contribute their own topics. Openness, commitment, and initiative are key.

7. What is expected from mentors?

support reflection on career-related topics

Mentors share professional experience, provide feedback, and support reflection on career-related topics. They do not act as academic supervisors or job placement agents.

8. What support is provided by the programme team?

Support & Help

The programme team supports mentees and mentors throughout the programme, assists with organisational or communication issues, and provides resources such as checklists.

9. Is participation in workshops and events mandatory?

strongly encouraged

Participation in workshops, Industrial Talks, and other programme-related events is voluntary but strongly encouraged.

10. What happens after the programme ends?

closing event

The programme concludes with a closing event in November. Participants receive a certificate of participation and may remain part of the mentoring network as alumni.
