Life Sciences

Medical and Pharmaceutical Technology, and Biotechnology

The third research focus, Life Sciences, is represented by researchers who are working on innovative solutions for

  • medical technology
  • pharmaceutical technology and
  • biotechnology.

Their work is usually characterised by a high degree of interdisciplinarity. The constant integration of state-of-the-art technologies creates new interdisciplinary fields of research and development in this area.

The medical technology area of the focus unites competencies in the innovative key area of computer-aided diagnostics and therapy. Together with clinical and industrial partners, the interdisciplinary projects combine expertise in sensor technology, robotics, signal processing and pattern recognition in the design of medical devices and in the therapeutic sciences. The areas of pharmaceutical technology and biotechnology, for their part, aim to provide economically relevant and cost-effective biocatalytic production processes that take account of the guiding principle of sustainability.

The networking of the research focus with non-university institutions, clinics and industry as well as the transfer of knowledge across campuses in application-oriented research guarantee the support of young scientists and expand and strengthen research in the life sciences at Trier University of Applied Sciences.
