Professorship in Food Economy, Digitalization, and Sustainability in the Food Industry
Prof. Dr. Patrick Siegfried has been a professor at Trier University of Applied Sciences since 2022. He combines many years of senior management experience in the food sector with internationally recognized academic expertise in digitalization, sustainability, supply chain management, and strategic management.
After completing his studies in Business Administration (Diplom) at the Cooperative State University Mannheim, he earned an Executive MBA from the University of Bradford. He received his doctorates in 2012 from the Wrocław University of Economics (Dr. oec., Strategic Controlling in Young SMEs) and in 2014 from Kaposvár University of Agriculture (Dr. phil., Service Engineering in SMEs). In 2023, he completed his habilitation at Budapest Business University (BGE), focusing on Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Knowledge Transfer in Service Research.
Prior to his academic career, Prof. Siegfried spent over 20 years in senior leadership positions in food retailing, the food industry, and food logistics. His roles included Area Manager at REWE Leibbrand OHG, Sales Director at LIDL GmbH & Co. KG, Managing Director and CEO at Desserts Salads Snacks GmbH, and Commercial Director at top Logistik / WIV Wein International AG (Pieroth Wein GmbH). This extensive practical experience strongly shapes his application-oriented teaching and his intensive transfer activities between academia and industry.
Since 2003, Prof. Siegfried has been a lecturer in Retail Management and Digital Commerce Management at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Mannheim. In 2012, he held a Visiting Professorship in Retail Management and Logistics at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and in International Management at Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. In 2014, he assumed the Professorship of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the International School of Management (ISM) in Frankfurt. In 2019, he was appointed Guest Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) in Budapest, which awarded him the honorary title of Honorary University Professor in 2024.
Prof. Siegfried is internationally well-connected, actively publishes in academic journals, and is deeply involved in curriculum development and internationalization. In his role as Academic Director of the International Office, he leads and coordinates international projects such as HAW-International, HAW-GIRO, and HAW-TRUST.
