Apply for the Master Gemstones and Jewellery in further education

You don't hold a Bachelor's degree but are trained and experienced in the field?

No problem. Our Master course is also open for talented artisans. For these applicants the admission requirements are slightly different and you will be charged tuition fees. Check out these issues:

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In order to get admission to our master course, applicants do not neccessarily need to have a first university degree! If you:

  • have a completed, certified vocational training,
  • have at least three years of professional experience,
  • pass the aptitude test and
  • if the equivalence of your professional experience with a bachelor's degree is established by the board of examination,

you can get admitted to the Master in Gemstones and Jewellery

FEES

Tuition fees are charged for this course:
21 € per ECTS credit point, each semester has 30 ECTS credit points, i.e. one semester costs 630 €; the course has 4 semesters, i.e. the Master's course costs 2,520 €. The fees for credit points are due at the beginning of the lecture period of the respective semester. An invoice will be issued.

Besides that, you will be charged a semesterly registration fee of appr. 200 € (may vary every semester) which currently includes the "Deutschlandsemesterticket" for bus and train transportation throughout Germany.

STEP 1: Register for the entrance examination

First of all, you need to prepare the following documents:

  1. your complete CV
    Filename: CV.pdf
  2. portfolio - see "How-To prepare your portfolio".
    Your portfolio needs to contain the following dated and signed declaration: "I certify that I am the AUTHOR AND MAKER of all works contained in my portfolio and where ever this is not the case I have indicated this clearly." Non-compliant portfolios will be rejected.

  3. project proposal for your master study in Idar-Oberstein
    The project proposal is an important part of your application and has to be presented on a maximum of three DIN-A4 papers (less is more), describing what you would like to achieve during your MFA course. The possible content, procedure and outcome of this project are to be presented here under the follwing aspects:
    --> The project proposal should mainly be on what you would like to do and be: your goals, aims and in which directions your professional wishes might take you - also beyond the MFA in IO.
    --> Please do NOT tell us here WHY you would like to do this but 
    --> please explain us about the development of abilities, why these are important to you and where your „dreams for your future“ will take you…!
    --> please do not focus on the result of the master programme in the sense of a body/series of works.

  4. letter of motivation 
    on your future studies at the Gemstones and Jewellery Campus

  5. a copy/scan/photo of your ID or passport

  6.  a certified copy of the certificate of your vocational training. If not in English or German, supply us with a certified translation.

  7. for applicants with foreign certificates only
    a copy/scan/photo/screenshot of the proof of payment of 50 € for the examination of foreign certificates.

    If your certificates are not acquired in Germany, you will be charged a fee of 50 € for the examination of foreign certificates. Please transfer this amount plus any transaction fees* to:

    Please note that your bank may charge transaction fees. Make sure that the university actually receives 50 €. Please ask your bank for such fees.

After preparing the documents listed above, do not forget to COMPRESS your files (e.g. pdfcompressor.com).
After compressing your files please pack them in 1 ZIP-file.
Now you can
REgister for the entrance examination
(please do NOT send any documents by email!)
Applications to the aptitude test that do not comply with the above mentioned will not be taken into consideration.

If your documents prove to be inadequate, you will receive a negative reply.
If your documents prove to be qualified, you will be invited to the next step:

STEP 2: Interview

You will be invited for an interview (possibly via video conference) where we will assess the portfolio and project proposal as well as check your ability to communicate in English (since we do not request any TOEFL-test or other certificates),

If your interview proves to be inadequate, you will receive a negative reply.
If your interview proves to be qualified, you will receive a certificate on passing the entrance examination.
Now you can proceed to: 

STEP 3: matriculate

You have passed the above steps 1 and 2 of the entrance examination?
and received your "Certificate on passing the Qualification test for the MFA-program Gemstones and Jewellery"? 
CONGRATULATIONS!

The 3rd step of the application process is the online registration and matriculation.
