Entries for the Book-"Intelligent Brooch Back Mechanisms" by Daniela Malev Weingärtner

About the book

In the field of contemporary jewellery the brooch is the most common and also much discussed form of jewellery. One of the special challenges of making a good brooch is to find an adequate solution for the needle which connects the piece securely to the body but goes beyond being a mere functional and invisible backside. It should be an essential part of the brooch in terms of content and aesthetics.
After teaching several workshops in different schools for contemporary jewellery focusing especially on this subject I decided to compile and publish a book about good solutions and refreshing inventions for brooch mechanisms.
Research, conceptual work and a first draft of this book will be part of my Master-Thesis at the Trier University of Applied Sciences, Department of Gemstones and Jewellery in Idar-Oberstein. My thesis will be submitted in October 2014. The book is planned to be published in 2015 by the Trier University of Applied Sciences, Campus Idar-Oberstein, Germany in cooperation with Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School Florence, Italy.
Jewellers and artists who have worked in the field of brooches and have found innovative and intelligent solutions for brooch mechanisms and needles are invited to submit and share their work and be part of this book. The name of the artist will appear alongside the picture or drawing that has been submitted and a short biography and a statement of the artist about his view on brooches and needles will be included in the book.

Participation is free of charge. The decision about which submissions are selected for the book is made by the author and cannot be claimed.

Deadline for submission: July 31st 2014
