Airport Collaboration

Airport Collaboration is a co-located XRSimulation that is a semi-cooperative serious game on the topic of total airport management. A co-located XR simulation is a networked simulation between different headsets (in this case HoloLens 2 and Quest Pro) that takes place between different participants in the same physical location. In our case, a PC serves as a server to run the actual simulation.

The solution presented here is internet-independent. The complete equipment we use to run the simulation can be transported in the trunk of a car. The scenario is designed for 4 participants. With co-located XR simulations, the advantages of a board game are combined with those of a computer simulation. From the board game we take the aspect that you have a common game situation in the middle that you can discuss. We take advantage of the computer simulation to be able to run a complex (constructive) simulation in the background, where the entire simulation process is also recorded for a debriefing.

The aim of the simulation is to understand the basic conflict situation in which various companies involved in the operation of an airport find themselves. These are the airport manager, who, in addition to operating the security checkpoints, is responsible for assigning the landing positions of the aircraft, the ground handler, who is responsible for sending the buses to the external positions and, in this case, an airline, which makes the take-off decision for an aircraft Plane hits. All parties must weigh individual costs against overall passenger satisfaction.
