Lernziele Business Information Systems – either ERP systems or individual software systems – play a crucial role for modern enterprises. Therefore, knowledge about architectures, concepts, usage and fields of application is central for a future business data processing specialist. The students should be able to
  • distinguish the main differences between the area of business informatics and the area of computer science
  • understand the purpose of business information systems, especially enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • know the potential use and benefits of the different kind of business information systems
  • explain the standard architecture of ERP systems
  • know the core business processes supported by business information systems
  • explain the relationships between business process management and business information systems
  • understand the term Business Intelligence (BI) and know the components of a business intelligence system
  • understand the concepts of an integrated enterprise management system
  • know the meaning of strategic information management
