Admission Process Undergraduate Program

Open House Day

Come to our department and learn all about studying architecture at the University of Applied Sciences Trier. You have the chance to get to know our professors and students. We will show you how the study programme works and answer all open questions. Our student council will show you the studio rooms and workshops where you can work. In an exhibition you will see works by our students and gain an insight into the projects that await you during your studies.

Admission

Our undergraduate program always starts for the winter semester.

If you are applying as a foreigner please do so via Uni-Assist.

The portal is open from mid/end of May.

Internship I

Proof of a practical activity (internship) lasting 12 weeks must be submitted before registration for the final thesis. Relevant practical professional training and activity will be credited. The practical activity must take place in companies that are approved for training by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Chamber of Trade or the Chamber of Architects.

The fields of work during the internship should correspond to the following framework plan:

in terms of time:

  • The predominant part ( 8 - 12 weeks ) of the internship takes place in companies of the main building trade: Excavations, masonry or concrete work, carpentry and other building trades such as joinery, locksmith and building services.
  • The remaining part (max. 4 weeks) can be completed in planning offices by freelance architects and landscape architects or by public authorities, the building trade and industry.

The internship should be completed in as contiguous periods of time as possible. Periods of less than two weeks will not be recognised.

in terms of content:

  • Methods and skills of planning and design with the corresponding presentation techniques.
  • Creation of simple plans and working documents.
  • Translating the planning into reality.
  • Cooperation in site preparation, surveying, invoicing, surveying, construction and design drawings.

We recommend that you complete most of the internship before you start your studies.

Admission Process Graduate Program

Portfolio Inspection and Interview

Internal students with an average grade of at least 2.0 or better must submit a certified copy of their Bachelor's or Diploma degree certificate or a current overview of the university's grades as well as a personal letter of motivation - "Letter of Intent" - of max. 2 A4 pages.

Internal students with an average grade of less than 2.0 are examined by an admissions committee and, in addition to their diploma and letter of motivation, submit a portfolio of selected papers from their previous studies in A4 or A3 format. Further qualifications must be proven by work samples from studies and practical periods, completed projects, drafts, subject-related work, etc.

In any case, external students have to submit a certified copy of their Bachelor's or Diploma degree certificate with an overview of grades and the average grade, a letter of motivation and a portfolio of previous study-related and postgraduate work.

You are also welcome to personally hand in or submit the documents in the field of architecture (secretariat) or send them by post.

You will be informed individually about the further procedure and the date for any admission interview.

Admission

Our program always starts for the winter semester. 

External students have the possibility to submit their application until 15.07.2022, 12:00 o'clock at the secretary's office, department of architecture (contact details can be found on the right). For internal students, the deadline for submission is 22.07.2022, 12:00.
Subsequently, the portfolio review will take place. If any questions arise regarding admission, applicants will be invited to an admission interview at the end of July or beginning of August.

Internship II

First-year students must prove that they have relevant practical previous training of 12 weeks at the start of their studies. A relevant practical professional activity is credited. The areas of work during the preliminary internship II should correspond to the following framework plan.

in terms of time:

  •     The internship is to be carried out in planning offices of freelance architects, urban planners, landscape architects or offices located here with specialisations in the field of visualisation / media and CAAD.
  •     The internship should be completed in periods that are as coherent as possible, whereby periods of less than two weeks will not be recognised.

in terms of content:

  •     Methods and skills of planning and design with the corresponding presentation methods and techniques.
  •     Preparation of complex plans and working documents.
  •     Implementation of plans into reality.
