Master student Sonia Pibernat (M.F.A. 2018) is the winner of the Young Designer Award 2018 at the Munich Show.

The Munich Show – Mineralientage Munich is Europe’s largest trade fair for minerals, fossils, gemstones & jewelery with over 1,250 exhibitors and around 40,000 visitors. Every year at the end of October, scientists, collectors and dealers from all over the world meet in Munich to exchange, admire and acquire unique natural treasures. The show took place from 25th to 27th October. One part of the show was the "Young Designers Corner” – international jewellery design competition.

The competition is open to interested students and graduates who have successfully completed university, college or training school studies within the last three years. A top-level jury selected among all competitors the awarded, Sonia Pibernat (M.F.A. 2018), who will be invited to present her jewellery creations at the Young Designers Corner of this year’s Gemworld Munich and she received a cash prize.

The Jury announced her decision during the last day of the Munich Show, explaining the decision: "Her jewelry is incomparably beautiful - fragile and at the same time occupying space. Her pieces seem so light and immaterial."

All the awarded objects are made of 18k gold and come from the 2018 Bodies in Motion - Immaterial Lines project, which was part of Sonia Pibernats Master of Fine Arts at Campus Idar-Oberstein.
