Trier University of Applied Sciences is strong in third-party funding and successful in EU research. In 2020, the university raised around 12 million euros in third-party funds. In order to continue to successfully participate in the funding programmes of the European Union and to support researchers in the acquisition and administration of funding, the EU Research Advisory and Coordination Office was set up as a central unit.
Initially, the office was financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the funding period of two years (2014-2016) through a successful application in the EU Strategy FH programme. The BMBF approved an extension of the START project until September 2020. The START concept aims to make it easier for students and researchers at Trier University of Applied Sciences to enter and apply for EU programmes.
