With the creation of parental leave the government wants to help you to be able to spent more time with your newly arrived family member.
It therefore created a variety of possibilities for you to organise your parental leave so you can adapt them to fit your needs.
Generally employees are entitled to parental leave up their child’s third year. This leave of absence of their job is make their new parental duties easier for them.
With the introduction of the parental allowance plus and the therewith created option to extend the ordinary length of parental allowance of 12 to 14 month, more flexibility to make better use of the parental leave regulations is created, especially for parents of children born after 01.07.2015.

Parental leave for students:
According to §12 of the registration regulation of students of the University of Applied Sciences Trier (01.07.1997) students can be given leave from their studies on request to the president. This leave can be extended to a maximum of six months. However, the request for leave must be renewed within the re-registration period of every semester. Please state in your request as reason for asking leave “pregnancy” or “child care duties”. A request for leave cannot be granted before admission to studies, right after registration or during your first semester.
