About us

The IT-departments at the Main Campus and the Environmental Campus are central facilities under the responsibility of the president in accordance with §90 HochSchG Rhineland-Palatinate. They are responsible for the planning and safe operation of the IT infrastructure (wired and wireless networks, physical and virtual servers, computer pools, workstation systems, external network connections to the Rhineland-Palatinate Science Network (WIN-RP) and the Internet) at all locations of the university. In addition, they provide all facilities of the university with numerous services related to information and communication technologies (ICT).

Almost all departments of the university depend on a relisble, secure and highly available IT infrastructure and modern information and communication technologies to handle their tasks in teaching, research and administration in a variety of ways. The high level of penetration and the progressive digitization of processes throughout the university places high demands on the performance and availability of these technologies. This requires sustainable but equally forward-looking and dynamic IT management in the data centers in order to continually develop the service portfolio along the current needs of the university.

TheIT-Departments therefore see themselves as strategic partners in university development by shaping and developing the processes in teaching, research and administration in questions of technical design, information security and concrete implementation, thus enabling and supporting the digitization of the university in its core processes. This also includes evaluating cooperative or external service offerings - in addition to their own services - with regard to their significance, future development, cost-effectiveness and security and, if applicable, integrating them into the IT landscape of the university.

In this sense, the IT-departments of the Trier University of Applied Sciences support all members of the university (as well as guest researchers and visiting students) through counseling and training and are the first point of contact in matters of digitization and the use of the ICT services spectrum of the university. The concerns and the satisfaction of their customers form the basis of their daily thinking and acting.
