In February, Prof. Siegfried visited the new partner university, Tashkent State Agrarian University. They discussed exchange programs and future joint activities. As a first step, Dr. Narkabulova was invited to Trier through the DAAD visiting lecturer program.
For four weeks, we welcomed visiting professor Dr. Nargiza Narkabulova from Tashkent State Agrarian University in Uzbekistan to Trier University of Applied Sciences. During her stay, she took part in various lectures and excursions in the Department of Food Technology, where she learned about the working methods, research focuses, and teaching methods of our university. She also took the opportunity to exchange ideas with Trier food technologists on common topics in research and practice.
Dr. Narkabulova is an expert in viticulture, food processing, and preservation. Her perspective on German wine culture, which she was able to learn more about during her stay—from regional growing areas to processing and marketing—was therefore particularly interesting. At the end of her time in Trier, she gave an inspiring guest lecture entitled “Discover Uzbekistan: Culture & Education, Viticulture & Winemaking.” In it, she presented her home country, the Uzbek education system, and current research projects at her university. We learned a lot about wine production there and discovered some exciting parallels to our own topics.
There was great interest in a future exchange or excursion to Uzbekistan, and initial ideas have already been gathered. A delegation visit with professors and students is planned for the spring. To round off her stay, we visited the food technologists' onion cake festival together – with new wine, very fitting for the theme!
