Application Bachelor Fashion Design

Students are always admitted in the summer and winter semester of each year.

Study requirements:

  • General qualification for university entrance
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification
  • Preliminary internship of 12 weeks


The procedure takes place in 2 stages:

1st stage: portfolio check 

Content of the folder: 15 independently produced works - drawing, painting, illustration, photography. fields: Graphic representation of the human figure/studies of nature, object representation, still life, studies from the textile field/folding etc., fashion illustrations and fashion designs, colour studies/textile surface designs... (Size and form: up to max. DIN A 1 in a re-closable, sturdy folder. Each individual work should be marked on the back with its full name) 

The folder packed ready for dispatch as well as the folder itself should be provided with one of the attached, completely filled out address labels each. 

Please note urgently: Enclose the completed application form for participation in the qualifying examination with the folder and send both sufficiently stamped to Hochschule Trier, Fachrichtung Modedesign, Irminenfreihof 8, 54290 Trier (personal delivery is possible from Monday to Thursday from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon in the secretary's office of the Fashion Design Department, Room 108, 1st floor).

The application and the folder must be received by the cut-off deadline. This is November 15th for the following summer semester and May 15th for the following winter semester. Only the university's date of receipt is valid, not the date of the postmark. If this deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday on which the university is closed, the deadline is not postponed to the following working day. 

Portfolio consultation

Before submitting your portfolio for review, you have the opportunity to attend a portfolio consultation. These appointments usually take place in April/May and October/November. Here you have the opportunity for a personal consultation. Please make sure to bring along portfolios with work that has already been completed. If you have successfully passed the portfolio examination, you will be invited to the written examination. Regardless of the result, the submitted portfolios will usually be returned to you carriage forward within a maximum period of 4 weeks.

2nd stage: Aptitude test - two-day written examination 

Approximately two weeks after the portfolio examination, a two-day written examination will take place at the Irminenfreihof 8 site. It consists of several examination areas. 

The examination contents generally consist of the following areas: object drawing, fashion design and illustration, design and practical execution of a textile object / colour design, collage, test / theoretical knowledge, questioning / personal motivation.

You will be informed in good time about which working materials are required for the exam when you receive your invitation to the written exam.

You will be informed about the result of this aptitude test and will receive a certificate. No information on the results of the examination will be given by telephone.
