Living Exhibition: The Gemstone and Jewellery Campus at the 1st Summit of Jewellery Classes

The Gemstone and Jewellery Campus is part of a globally unique "living exhibition" at the Neue Sammlung of the Pinakothek der Morderne: at the 1st Summit of Jewellery Classes, 41 classes from 23 nations will present themselves in a unique pop-up exhibition. The event can only be experienced for one evening and will be accompanied by a live concert by the band SASEBO.

On 6 March 2026, the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus will be part of an extraordinary international event: at the invitation of Die Neue Sammlung, the campus will participate in the 1st Summit of Jewellery Classes at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.

A total of 41 jewellery classes from 23 nations and four continents will come together on this evening to present the diversity and future of young contemporary jewellery. Each class will design its own pop-up exhibition, which will exist exclusively for the duration of this event. As a "living exhibition," the format is conceived as a lively, performative exhibition that focuses on presence, exchange and encounter.

The Campus Edelstein und Schmuck presents itself as an independent entity within this global network and provides insight into its current artistic work and teaching practice. Students and teachers themselves become part of the exhibition and engage in direct dialogue with an international audience.

Numerous areas of the museum will be used, including the outdoor area in front of the entrance, the entrance area itself, and exhibition and lounge areas on several floors. For one evening, the entire museum will become a platform for contemporary jewellery.

According to curator Dr. Petra Hölscher, the director of the Neue Sammlung, Prof. Dr. Angelika Nollert, will welcome the guests, followed by a short speech by the curator herself. Another highlight of the evening will be a live concert by the band SASEBO from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The band has close ties to the international jewellery scene and will perform with artists David Bielander, Yutaka Minegishi and Mari Ishikawa as special guests.

The pop-up exhibition is taking place as part of Munich Jewellery Week and several anniversaries of Die Neue Sammlung, including 100 years of the Design Museum in Munich's Pinakothek der Moderne, 30 years of the jewellery collection and 20 years of jewellery exhibitions at the museum.

With its participation, the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus is becoming part of a unique international moment – and an exhibition that only exists in the here and now.
