Campus for Design and Art

Danni Schwaag writes about her stay as an AiR at the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus

From August to September 2024, the former graduate was a guest at the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus and the Jakob Bengel industrial monument. At the same time, she exhibited under the title »geronnen« at Villa Bengel.

"object-like, sketchy, installative, wearable...

moments, encounters, phrases, pictures of my artist in residence time in idar-oberstein.
galalith, a casein material,

a product made from milk. cheese. ice cream...
utensils that I associate with it.
cheese, hooks, hangers, (cheese) knives...
and Tony in the pedestrian zone has the best ice cream ....
"his dark one is the best"

how to work with the material? moulding, stretching, bending, sanding, sawing,
what happens during the working process?

the rods as they are deformed by heat. new dimensions are created.
tap, connect, cable, join, knot...twist!

just sitting there.
leave it. distance it.
and then continue making.
colour gives energy.
the variations in form seem endless. i find compositions through observation, experience and questioning. the constant playful process is one of the most important steps in my work.

and sometimes i only know what doesn't work for me. nnot knowing what works.
trying, experimenting, playing.

it's a never ending story.
i can't stop.
so grateful to be here.
THANKS FOR THIS GREAT GREAT TIME!"
