From 19 to 27 September 2026, the 3rd Lisbon Jewellery Biennial takes place under the title of „Coexistences / Coexistências“ statt. The Biennial is dedicated to different forms of living together and brings together contemporary jewellery art at numerous locations across the Portuguese capital.
The Campus Edelstein und Schmuck of Trier University of Applied Sciences is also involved in this year's Biennial in a variety of ways. Alongside several group exhibitions featuring students and graduates of the Campus, individual works are represented in international exhibition projects. These contributions also show the different paths that lead from studies into international jewellery art.
The Iranian group of students and graduates "A Shared Silence" presents works that move between memory and present, closeness and distance, hope and despair. Jewellery becomes a space for reflection and a way of giving form to what cannot be spoken.
The participants are Bahareh Arian, Farnoosh Abdoli, Mana Jahangard, Nioosha Vaezzadeh, Pegah Vedad, Rezvan Hajian, Sara Heidary, Shahin Sahafipour, Sharareh Aghaei and Vesal Bahmani Nik. The exhibition takes place at the Igreja São Domingos.
The exhibition „Shared Grounds – Contemporary Jewellery from Austria“ brings together 18 Austrian jewellery artists of different generations. Six artists connected to the Campus are among them: Stina Bross, Nikolaus F. Egger, Iris Hummer, Stephie Morawetz, Ulrich Reithofer and Miriam Strake.
The exhibition examines the connection between tradition and rebellion within Austrian jewellery art and shows how contemporary positions engage with art history, design, industry and pop culture. It was curated by Iris Hummer.
„Shared Grounds“ is on show at Klein Space.
STUCK
Ana Bellagamba and Sandra Hartmann, graduates of the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus, together with former student Caio Mahin present „STUCK“, a joint exhibition at the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição Velha.
The starting point is works that reached a standstill during the artistic process, whether technically, conceptually or because of decision-making. The three artists bring these interrupted works together and make the state of "being stuck" the starting point for dialogue and collaboration. Unfinishedness and uncertainty are not understood as failure but as open states from which new relationships and possibilities can emerge. In this way, "STUCK" connects individual artistic practice with the Biennial's central idea: the search for forms of living together and coexistence.
Ana Bellagamba is also taking part in the exhibition „Crossing“ together with Alice Lobato and JP Vellaco. Three jewellery artists from São Paulo, Idar-Oberstein and Rio de Janeiro explore spaces of coexistence between layers, bodies, images and ideas. Overlaid, semi-transparent images and seams become gestures of connection, limitation and tension.
ASTONISH Collective: Partycals
The ASTONISH Collective is also represented at the Biennial with an exhibition. The group celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026 and presents the project "Partycals" at the Igreja da Madalena.
The collective consists exclusively of female artists who are graduates of the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus: Gina Nadine Müller, Iris Hummer, Julia Obermaier, Sharareh Aghaei, Stephie Morawetz and Pei Wu. Over ten years, the collective has developed into a platform for artistic exchange, collaboration and mutual support.
„Coexistences / Coexistências – Jewellery and the World’s Beauty“
Current Master's student Maryam Akbarpour is also part of the Biennal. Her work „Flew with Me“ (2026) is presented in the exhibition „Coexistences / Coexistências – Jewellery and the World’s Beauty“ at MUDE – Museu do Design. Akbarpour's work deals with the intimate relationship between jewellery and the body. The object is not only meant to be looked at, but to be something that touches the body, encloses it and stays close to it. In doing so, the work connects questions of belonging and change with the body, memory and personal experience.
The exhibition, curated by Patrícia Domingues, herself a graduate of the Gemstone and Jewellery Campus, and Marta Costa Reis, brings together international positions in contemporary jewellery art.
Typhaine Le Monnier: Playtime
Another highlight of the Campus's participation is the presentation of "Playtime", the first monograph by the artist Typhaine Le Monnier. The publication, released by Arnoldsche, documents Le Monnier's artistic practice at the intersection of contemporary jewellery and sculptural objects. At its centre is a playful, experimental working process that makes visible not only the finished work but also the act of making and testing itself.
The book presentation takes place on 26. September 2026 at 2:30 pm in the auditorium of the library of the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes. In the discussion that follows, Typhaine Le Monnier; Cristina Filipe, artist, author, researcher and curator; Theo Smeets, Professor of Gemstones and Jewellery at Trier University of Applied Sciences; and Dirk Allgaier, Managing Director of Arnoldsche Art Publishers, will talk about "Playtime" and Le Monnier's artistic work.
Dissidences
Ignasi Cavaller is exhibiting together with Jordi Aparicio and Valentim Quaresma. The exhibiton “Dissidences” at Museu do Aljube brings together three different, nonconformist artistic languages and explores jewellery as an expression of opposition and dissidence.
Insights into the Campus's international network
The many contributions to the 3rd Lisbon Jewellery Biennial highlight the international connections of the Campus Edelstein und Schmuck and its students and graduates. In various constellations, personal, political, social and material-related questions come together.
From collective projects such as „A Shared Silence“, „STUCK“ and „Partycals“ to international group exhibitions such as „Shared Grounds“ and Maryam Akbarpour's participation at „Coexistences / Coexistências – Jewellery and the World’s Beauty“ and the book presentation by Typhaine Le Monnier, the contributions show different paths and forms of contemporary jewellery practice.
The 3rd Lisbon Jewellery Biennial thus offers not only a platform for current jewellery art but also a place for exchange, collaboration and international networking, and it shows how diverse the artistic paths connected to the Campus Edelstein und Schmuck are.
