Tamia is no stranger to us: She completed her MFA degree at our campus in 2022 - before the fire at the campus. She is now returning as an artist to work in Idar-Oberstein from the end of July to the end of September as part of our joint Artist in Residence programme with the Jakob Bengel Foundation.
Tamia comes from Portugal, from the island of Madeira, and now lives and works in Lisbon. In her artistic practice, she sees jewellery as a narrative medium. She describes her work as an attempt to tell stories through symbols and materiality. Her works move between ritual and everyday life, often carried by raw, expressive materials such as basalt, cotton or pigments.
During her residency, Tamia will use the workshops on the new campus and engage in dialogue with students.
In August, we will welcome another person as Artist in Residence. Further information will follow shortly.
