To kick off the international project for more sustainability in the fashion industry, the Fashion Design programme welcomed the partner universities BCU Birmingham and ESAD Porto to an eventful and inspiring kick-off week in Trier.

After the official kick-off, a guided tour of the campus and the city of Trier awaited the guests. The city tour was very entertainingly given by former professor Dr. Rudolf Terner. This was followed by a spectacular Welcome Dinner in the Aula Paulusplatz.

During the week, numerous English-language workshops on international cooperation and teamwork followed as preparation for international project work. In the project, the students are asked to develop solutions for three start-ups from all three countries and work together virtually over the summer, supported by the teachers.

Fashion as an expression of the zeitgeist touches many areas of life and at the same time represents one of the largest industries worldwide, which dominates the global South in particular. Globalised value chains in the fashion industry offer opportunities to align consumer demand and production performance. However, the current prevailing linear system creates injustices at the environmental and social levels that require a holistic approach to change the existing paradigm.

Reorienting the fashion industry
Many higher education institutions and fashion companies are realigning themselves to meet the challenges of a new fashion industry. To enable the shift towards a sustainable industry, they are looking for new impulses and suitable young talent to support their journey.
