Two awards at the ICOMOS- Student competition 2021

Architecture students win ICOMOS competition 2021.

In 2021, the biennial competition for young architects organised by ICOMOS Germany and partner organisations was again dedicated to young heritage after 1960. This time, the focus was on concrete brut architecture, i.e. literally "raw" exposed concrete buildings, and other examples of so-called Brutalism. The focus was on a critical appraisal of the monument projects and the discussion of solutions for their preservation.
Almost 60 works were submitted by the deadline of 27 September 2021; students of architecture, interior design, urban planning, art history, restoration, archaeology or other disciplines relevant to monuments were addressed.

Two of the seven equal prizes went to Trier University of Applied Sciences. Lennart Becker and Hannah Hank studied the Protestant Lukaskirche in Mannheim-Almenhof, while Tammy Pauly and Franziska Weber dealt with the Les Choux de Créteil housing estate in Paris. This Submissions can be viewed in the project gallery on the homepage of the Department of Architecture.

The award ceremony took place on 28 October at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt. The seven award-winning projects were presented there. Afterwards, the exhibition of all submitted projects was opened and could be viewed.
