Medical Informatics (B.Sc.)

Medical informatics deals with the application of computer science techniques within the field of medicine. Today, high-quality medical care is no longer possible without the systematic collection and processing of information. In future, addressing current issues and developing innovative solutions in diagnostics and therapy will increasingly require interdisciplinary collaboration between the various medical specialisms and the engineering sciences.

The primary aim of the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Medical Informatics’ is to train computer scientists specialising in the field of medical informatics, equipping them for professional practice. The programme has a strongly interdisciplinary focus, which reflects the future professional demands facing graduates. The programme aims to provide both a sound grounding in computer science and a broad-based education in medical informatics. Through its curriculum, it prepares students for software-oriented career paths. The skills of future graduates lie in the fields of medical software development, computer-aided diagnostics, medical information systems and telemedicine applications.

A further aim is to prepare students who wish to pursue further qualifications to continue their studies with a Master’s degree programme in Computer Science.

The programme is offered exclusively in German.
