Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (B.Sc.)

The growing importance of data for current and future developments has become evident across all sectors of the economy and public institutions. This is primarily due to the groundbreaking advances in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years. Central to this development are machine learning techniques, which make it possible to identify and utilise patterns and structures in large and often complex datasets. In parallel with this, and to some extent reinforcing one another, the closely related, interdisciplinary field of data science – situated at the intersection of computer science and statistics – has become firmly established. Here, new technologies and methods for organising and processing data are continually being developed and researched. Particular challenges arise from the heterogeneity, scale and high dynamism of the data sets.

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science aims to equip graduates with the technical and specialist skills required to independently carry out projects and tasks across all areas of AI and data science. The programme’s curriculum provides a comprehensive academic qualification for subsequent Master’s study. It covers core areas of computer science as well as modules specifically focused on AI and data science, offering both a theoretical foundation and practical experience. The six-semester Bachelor’s programme comprises seven modules entirely focused on data science and AI, including modules on ethical challenges, statistical fundamentals, big data technologies and the fundamentals of machine learning. Through compulsory-elective modules, students have the opportunity to broaden their profile, whether through specialisation subjects in the field of data science and AI or through modules in computer science.

The programme is offered exclusively in German.
