Computer Science (dual B.Sc.)

Computer science and digitalisation are playing an increasingly significant role in many areas of society and the economy. In this context, the collaboration between businesses and universities plays a particularly important role: universities must maintain close links with businesses – particularly in disciplines such as computer science, which is currently experiencing rapid growth in knowledge – in order to provide market-oriented training. At the same time, students must acquire a solid academic foundation, which has been successfully established within the department for many years through the Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science. This dual Bachelor’s degree programme in Computer Science meets the significantly increased interest shown by students in recent years in achieving an even stronger and more intensive practical focus in their studies, without, however, neglecting their fundamental academic training.

The primary objective of the ‘Computer Science (dual)’ Bachelor’s programme is largely identical to that of the standard Bachelor’s programme in terms of academic competence; however, in the dual programme, this is characterised in particular by the combination of theoretical training and practical experience. In particular, this is achieved through specially designed transfer modules, which are completed both at the university and at the industry partner. These modules are designed to enable and encourage the direct transfer and application of the theoretical knowledge acquired to real-world work situations. To this end, both the fundamentals and specialised methods of computer science are taught in each subject area at an academic level. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have acquired a timeless body of background knowledge that enables them to acquire further or currently required specialist knowledge.
